Recap: Cordova Wolverines vs. Susitna Valley Rams
The Cordova Wolverines waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with three straight wins but they left with four. They had just enough and edged Susitna Valley out 51-48. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Cordova also won the last time the pair played last Friday.
Leading Cordova to victory were Noah Pearson and Vincent Nothstine. Pearson scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals, while Nothstine dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Nothstine has scored all season. Another player making a difference was John Itliong, who scored six points along with five assists and two steals.
Cordova pushed their record up to 4-3 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.0 points per game. As for Susitna Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cordova will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Effie Kokrine Charter on February 16th. As for Susitna Valley, Susitna Valley and King Cove will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 31st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
