Basketball Game Preview: Columbus Discoverers vs. Fremont Tigers

The Columbus Discoverers will square off against the Fremont Tigers at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Columbus is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.

Columbus is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Kearney on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Columbus had to suffer through a 79-41 loss at the hands of Kearney. The Discoverers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 50-20.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Ryder Bock, who posted six points. The team also got some help courtesy of Quinn Freshour, who scored six points and five assists.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Fremont, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They pulled ahead with a 58-57 photo finish over Lincoln Southwest on Friday.

Fremont's win came from a few key players Columbus will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Zach Keaton, who went 6 for 14 en route to 20 points. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Maurice Bryant, who had 11 points and eight boards.

Fremont pushed their record up to 7-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points per game. As for Columbus, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.

Columbus came up short against Fremont in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 52-47. Can Columbus avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
