California teams look to make move in Xcellent 25 Volleyball Rankings

By Kevin Askeland Nov 29, 2011, 12:01am

California teams look to improve ranking in state championship matches, as every other state is finished.

With only one state left playing, there was little change in this week's MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Volleyball Rankings presented by the Army National Guard.

California is the only state still playing and it will hold its state finals this weekend with regional play culminating tonight. The final matches from the Golden State will have some bearing on the final Xcellent 25, but there likely won't be any change to the Top 10.

Los Alamitos has the most to gain by a California state championship, as it could vault past Benet Academy, Yorktown and Bishop Moore. But supplanting four-time Texas 3A state champion Lovejoy will be difficult.

Three California teams, Mater Dei, Edison and Corona del Mar, did drop out this week. They were replaced by Tennessee champion Ravenwood, South Carolina state champion Hillcrest and Ohio Division I runnerup St. Ursula Academy.

The final Xcellent 25 rankings will appear Dec. 6.
