Preview: Gates Chili Spartans vs. Northeast/Northwest College Prep Panthers
Gates Chili has been on the road for three straight, but on Monday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Northeast/Northwest College Prep Panthers at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Gates Chili managed to keep up with Hilton until halftime on Saturday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Gates Chili was the victim of a tough 81-59 loss at the hands of Hilton. While losing is never fun, Gates Chili can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 632nd, while Hilton is ranked 70th).
Despite the loss, Gates Chili saw an underclassman step up: Joey Vigerzi scored 24 points along with two steals. Vigerzi has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tremier Lewis, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Northeast/Northwest College Prep was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 66-60 to World of Inquiry.
Gates Chili's defeat was their 13th straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 2-10. As for Northeast/Northwest College Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.
Everything came up roses for Gates Chili against Northeast/Northwest College Prep when the teams last played back in February of 2018 as the squad secured a 80-49 victory. Will Gates Chili repeat their success, or does Northeast/Northwest College Prep have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
