Baseball Recap: Avon's Loss Ends Eight-Game Winning Streak at Home

Avon dropped their record down to 13-4 on Thursday, which also ended the team's eight-game streak of wins at home. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Brownsburg Bulldogs. The contest marked the Orioles' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Avon saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caleb Wessel, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

As for Brownsburg, their win bumped their record up to 8-4. That looming 6-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

On Brownsburg's side, Ethan Gladstein tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits.

At the plate, Ethan Cougill and Canyon Koonce did most of the damage at the plate: Cougill went 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double, while Koonce got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Cougill has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Phillips, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Avon will venture away from home to challenge Carmel at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Orioles 3.4, the Greyhounds 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Brownsburg, they will head out to square off against Decatur Central at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
