Baseball Recap: Montello Takes a Loss

Montello had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 5-10 to make it four. They lost 13-2 to the Green Lake/Princeton Tigersharks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigersharks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-2 on Tuesday.

As for Green Lake/Princeton, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games.

For Green Lake/Princeton's part, Kyle Bond made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Bond has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Drake Westfield was incredible, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Grant Bartol was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Coming up, Montello will head out on the road to square off against Westfield Area at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Green Lake/Princeton, they will host Fall River at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Tigersharks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pirates have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
