Baseball Game Preview: Holgate Tigers vs. Gorham Fayette Eagles

The Holgate Tigers will head out to square off against the Gorham Fayette Eagles at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Holgate is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.

Holgate came up short against Edgerton on Friday, falling 14-1.

Meanwhile, the third road contest was the charm for Gorham Fayette, as they earned their first away victory of the season. They came out on top against Stryker by a score of 7-2 on Wednesday. The Eagles' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Caden Leininger made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carter Lavinder, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. Those hits were his first of the season. Mason Leininger was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Gorham Fayette's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-6. As for Holgate, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10.

Holgate took their victory against Gorham Fayette when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 22-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
