Baseball Game Preview: Summerfield Rebels vs. Homer Pelicans

The Summerfield Rebels will head out on the road to challenge the Homer Pelicans at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

If Summerfield beats Homer with seven runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Rebels beat Arcadia on Tuesday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 7-4. The win continues a trend for the Rebels in their matchups with the Hornets: they've now won seven in a row.

Meanwhile, Homer had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Eagles. The Pelicans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.

Clay Isgitt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on zero hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Paxton Prince was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-1. Homer is undefeated when Prince posts two or more runs, but 3-7 otherwise.

Homer pushed their record up to 12-7 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.7 runs over those games. As for Summerfield, their record is now 2-13.

Summerfield suffered a grim 15-5 defeat to Homer when the teams last played back in February. Can the Rebels avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
