Basketball Game Preview: Amherst County Lancers vs. Wilson Memorial Green Hornets

The Amherst County Lancers will head out on the road to challenge the Wilson Memorial Green Hornets at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.

Amherst County is headed into the matchup having just suffered their biggest defeat since January 22, 2024 on Friday. They took a blow against Glass, falling 65-24. The Lancers haven't had much luck with the Hilltoppers recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.

Amherst County got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of Hannah Hooper and Emmena Awanda, who each put up four points.

Meanwhile, Wilson Memorial entered their tilt with Waynesboro on Saturday with nine consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with ten. They blew past the Little Giants 76-45. Given the Green Hornets' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 66th, while the Little Giants are ranked 355th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Wilson Memorial's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-3. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.8 points per game. As for Amherst County, their loss dropped their record down to 7-9.
