Softball Recap: Cardinal Gibbons Wins Going Away Against Enloe

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Garner, Cardinal Gibbons was happy to have turned things around on Friday. Everything went their way against the Enloe Eagles as Cardinal Gibbons made off with a 21-7 victory. Considering the Crusaders have won four matches by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Avery Robinson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up seven earned runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 3-for-6. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Cardinal Gibbons let Katie Scavone and Mallory Kelly run wild. Scavone went 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs, while Kelly went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI Scavone has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Bridget Mazzo, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances.

Cardinal Gibbons kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

The win got Cardinal Gibbons back to even at 4-4. As for Enloe, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cardinal Gibbons will welcome Holly Springs at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Holly Springs will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Cardinal Gibbons surely won't give up without a fight. As for Enloe, they will be playing at home against Athens Drive at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
