Basketball Recap: Avalon Falls Despite Big Games from Erick Madriz and Jacob Mello

Avalon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 12th straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against the Holy Martyrs Armenian Armens, falling 63-41. The Lancers were not able to make up for their loss to the Armens from their previous meeting back in January of 2020.

Avalon's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jacob Mello, who went 7 for 10 on his way to 18 points and five steals, and Erick Madriz, who went 7 of 9 on his way to 14 points and five steals. Those five steals gave Madriz a new career-high.

Avalon's loss dropped their record down to 0-11. As for Holy Martyrs Armenian, their victory bumped their record up to 11-3.

Avalon didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 56-39 win against Santa Ana Valley on the 4th. As for Holy Martyrs Armenian, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 56-51 victory against Pacifica Christian/Santa Monica on the 2nd.
