Basketball Recap: Maplewood Takes a Loss

Maplewood lost against Rocky Grove back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Maplewood Tigers fell 58-51 to the Rocky Grove Orioles. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 640th, while the Orioles are ranked 211th).

Rocky Grove's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Schiffer Anderson led the charge by going 6 of 9 on his way to 19 points and five assists. Anderson is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Connor Ritchey, who posted 11 points and six rebounds.

Maplewood's loss dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Rocky Grove, the win (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 17-2.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Tigers face off against the Panthers at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Rocky Grove, they will welcome Clarion Area at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Rocky Grove's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 11 matchups.
