Softball Recap: Riverside-Durham Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Riverside-Durham barely beat Chapel Hill the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Pirates blew past the Tigers 14-0 on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won six matches by ten runs or more so far this season.

Grace Arrington was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Arrington was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Riverside-Durham got a massive performance out of Grayson Knotts, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. Knotts is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Juleah Somers, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

The victory (which was Riverside-Durham's fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Chapel Hill, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Riverside-Durham will face off against Durham Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pirates' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cavaliers have averaged an impressive 9.4 runs per game this season. As for Chapel Hill, they will take on Northern Durham at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
