Football Game Preview: Gates County Red Barons vs. Perquimans Pirates + How To Watch

For the first time this season, Gates County will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. After each having a week off, they and the Perquimans Pirates will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Gates County is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 44 points on September 12th, they were much more limited against Northside - Pinetown last Friday. They lost 32-12 to the Panthers.

Meanwhile, Perquimans hadn't done well against Southside recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way last Friday. The Pirates enjoyed a cozy 35-18 win over the Seahawks. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Pirates' offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

Gates County better keep an eye on Ataviyon White. He was instrumental in Perquimans' win, rushing for 115 yards and one touchdown on only 14 carries. White's longest rush was for an impressive 50 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Perquimans' defense made their presence known, laying out the QB four times. Steven Elliott was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up 3.5 sacks himself.

Gates County's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Perquimans, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Gates County came up short against Perquimans in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, falling 40-34. Can the Red Barons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
