Softball Game Preview: Lakeside Dragons vs. Jefferson Area Falcons

Lakeside is 0-8 against Jefferson Area since May of 2016 but things could change on Wednesday. The Dragons will be playing at home against the Falcons at 5:00 p.m. Lakeside has given up an average of 16.8 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Lakeside is headed into Wednesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game on Tuesday. They lost 11-1 to Pymatuning Valley.

Lakeside saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sophia Matrisciano, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Edgewood hit Jefferson Area with a six-run seventh inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Falcons fell 8-4 to the Warriors. That's two games in a row now that the Falcons have lost by exactly four runs.

Olivia Lewis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and three unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Alaina Barress and Marillia Matuz did some serious damage despite the final result: Barress went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Matuz went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Makenna Stanich also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Lakeside's loss dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Jefferson Area, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-8.
