Preview: Boulder Panthers vs. Northglenn Norsemen
Boulder is 3-0 against Northglenn since January of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Boulder Panthers' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Northglenn Norsemen at 7:00 p.m. on January 18th. Hopefully Boulder focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday.
Boulder suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Friday. They were outmatched by Fossil Ridge on the road and fell 67-32. Boulder has struggled against Fossil Ridge recently, as their game on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Cole Morrow, who scored 13 points. Another player making a difference was Kyle Blauch, who scored six points along with seven rebounds.
Boulder struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Northglenn scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They put the hurt on Prairie View with a sharp 70-46 win. With Northglenn ahead 42-19 at the half, the match was all but over already.
Northglenn found their leader in underclassman Leo Lin, who scored 18 points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Lin grabbed two or more steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Trevor Dean, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Boulder's defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 4-6. As for Northglenn, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Boulder have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 30.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Northglenn struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 23.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything went Boulder's way against Northglenn in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 as Boulder made off with a 49-29 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Boulder since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
