Softball Recap: Winnsboro Snaps Eight-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Winnsboro dropped their record down to 11-9 on Thursday, which also ended the team's eight-game streak of wins at home. They came up short against the Mount Vernon Tigers, falling 14-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-1 back in March.

As for Mount Vernon, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 23-5-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.2 runs over those games.

For Mount Vernon's part, Kajmiere Foster and Olivia Baird did most of the damage at the plate: Foster went 4-for-5 with one home run, two triples, and three runs, while Baird got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Those four hits gave Foster a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Pope, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Winnsboro will host Gunter at 7:00 p.m. on the 25th. The Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 10.1 runs per game this season. As for Mount Vernon, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Blue Ridge at 6:30 p.m.
