Baseball Recap: Poston Butte Takes a Loss

Poston Butte was the 20-3 winner over Apache Junction when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Poston Butte Broncos fell just short of the Apache Junction Prospectors by a score of 8-7 on Monday. That's two games in a row now that the Broncos have lost by just one run.

Wyatt Albertson was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Albertson was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Isael Aguilera made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 3-for-4.

Even though they lost, Poston Butte always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

This is the second loss in a row for Poston Butte and nudges their season record down to 3-6. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only one runs. As for Apache Junction, their win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-4.

Looking ahead, Poston Butte will venture away from home to challenge Sahuaro at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Sahuaro has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.11 runs per game on average), something Poston Butte will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Apache Junction, they will be playing at home against Coolidge at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Apache Junction is facing Coolidge at the right time seeing as Coolidge is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
