Softball Game Preview: Solon Comets vs. Nordonia Knights

The Solon Comets will head out to take on the Nordonia Knights at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Solon made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Brecksville-Broadview Heights, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Comets fell just short of the Bees by a score of 8-6 on Monday. The Comets haven't had much luck with the Bees recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Evan Barmen was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Izzy Shima also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Nordonia came up short against Holy Name on Monday and fell 8-3.

Nordonia saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Morgan Ritchie, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Nordonia's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Solon, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.

Nordonia's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Solon has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Nordonia, though, as they've been averaging only 3.1 strikeouts. Will Solon keep running through batters, or will the Knights buck the trend?

Solon got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in April of 2025 against Nordonia by a conclusive 12-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Comets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
