The host Cavaliers, winners of eight straight district crowns, and their regional dominance came crashing to a halt during a 35-21 District 25-4A loss to undefeated
Cedar Park (Texas) on Thursday.
Quarterback
Brian Hogan rushed for 159 yards and accounted for four touchdowns for Cedar Park (10-0), which raced to a 28-0 lead and was never really threatened.
Lake Travis has been rolling since it had its 48-game district win streak snapped seven weeks ago by Aledo.
Star quarterback
Michael Brewer was injured in that game but he had led the Cavaliers on a six game win streak , completing 70 percent of his passes during his return.
According to the Austin Statesmen, he threw for 318 yards and three touchdowns on Thursday, but most of it was done after most of the damage had been done.
Hogan completed a 16-yard touchdown pass to
Micheal Waterfield to give Cedar Park a 7-0 lead on its second possession.
Hogan then took advantage of two consecutive Lake Travis turnovers by rushing for touchdowns, making it 21-0.
Another turnover, this time a
Travis Reim interception, set up a touchdown pass from Hogan, making it 28-0 late in the second quarter.
Brewer led a furious rally with three touchdown passes, but
Ryan Roberts intercepted a Brewer pass in the end zone with five seconds left in the third quarter.
Cedar Park, which plays LBJ in a biddistrict playoff game next week, all but clinched the victory with an 11-play drive, capped by a 3-yard TD run by
Zachary Horne, making it 35-21 with 7:38 left.
Lake Travis (8-2) plays McCallum in playoff action next week.
