Basketball Recap: Springstead Falls Despite Big Games from Ariana Willoughby and Michelle Ramirez-Hoyos

If Springstead was riding high fresh off their 64-32 takedown of Wharton on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Springstead Eagles fell 47-36 to the Oak Lawn Spartans on Saturday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Eagles came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 87th in Florida, while the Spartans are ranked 219th in Illinois).

Springstead's loss came despite strong showings from Michelle Ramirez-Hoyos and Ariana Willoughby. Ramirez-Hoyos posted eight points and six rebounds, while Willoughby put up 11 points.

Springstead moved to 11-3 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Oak Lawn, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-5.

Springstead will take on Delaware Military Academy in a tournament on Monday. Delaware Military Academy will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Springstead surely won't give up without a fight. As for Oak Lawn, they will take on Stagg at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
