Baseball Recap: Eastern Montgomery Comes Up Short

Eastern Montgomery extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 7-9. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Bath County Chargers. The Mustangs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Chargers earlier this season, when they won 6-5.

Coltin Conner was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Eastern Montgomery is 4-2 when Conner posts three or more RBI, but 3-7 otherwise.

As for Bath County, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-4. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch.

On Bath County's side, the team relied heavily on Gunnar Whiddon, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. Those three hits gave Whiddon a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Perdue, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Eastern Montgomery will challenge Auburn at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Mustangs will need to watch out since the Eagles have now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests. As for Bath County, they will square off against Parry McCluer at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
