The Yuba City Honkers's homestand will continue as they prepare to take on the Chico Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Yuba City is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 35 points last Friday, they were much more limited against Pleasant Valley on Friday. They fell 22-12 to the Vikings. The loss was the Honkers' first of the season.
Yuba City's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Ryan Corum, who rushed for 100 yards on only 12 carries, and Jordan Martinez, who rushed for 53 yards.
Corum wasn't the only one working in the rushing yards department: Yuba City was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 203 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 203 rushing yards in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, everything went Chico's way against Antelope last Friday as Chico made off with a 31-6 victory.
Zaiveon Patrick had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 87 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries. Emilio Vierra made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Chico's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged two passes before it was all said and done. Vierra picked up that interception and then proceeded to rub salt in the wound by taking it back the other way for a touchdown.
Having lost for the first time this season, Yuba City fell to 2-1. As for Chico, the win also got them back to even at 1-1.
Yuba City ended up a good deal behind Chico in their previous matchup back in September of 2023, losing 36-21. Thankfully for Yuba City, Dion Coleman (who rushed for 196 yards and four touchdowns on only 15 carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
