Softball Game Preview: University City Centurions vs. Clairemont Chieftains

University City is 2-8 against Clairemont since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Centurions will host the Chieftains at 4:00 p.m.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for University City's offense. They fell 4-0 to Canyon Hills on Tuesday. The Centurions' loss continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Meanwhile, Clairemont entered their tilt with Madison on Tuesday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They put the hurt on the Warhawks with a sharp 15-4 win. Considering the Chieftains have won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Clairemont got a big performance out of Maddy Finley, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Those three runs gave Finley a new career-high. Maelea Silao was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Clairemont was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Clairemont pushed their record up to 10-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for University City, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-12-1.
