Preview: Messmer Bishops vs. Brookfield Academy Blue Knights
Messmer has been on the road for three straight, but on Thursday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Brookfield Academy Blue Knights at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Messmer lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the loss they were handed on on Wednesday was a bit more commanding. They were dealt a 112-78 defeat at the hands of Lake Country Lutheran. Messmer has not had much luck with Lake Country Lutheran recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Meanwhile, Brookfield Academy can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Friday. Everything went their way against Living Word Lutheran as Brookfield Academy made off with a 77-55 win. Given Brookfield Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while Living Word Lutheran is ranked 219th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Messmer bumped their record down to 2-11 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.5 points per game. As for Brookfield Academy, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-1.
Things could have been worse for Messmer, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 81-65 loss to Brookfield Academy in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can Messmer avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
