Preview: Bishop Diego Cardinals vs. Westlake Warriors
Bishop Diego is 1-0 against Westlake since October of 2022, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Bishop Diego Cardinals will head out on the road to face off against the Westlake Warriors at 7:00 p.m. Westlake took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Bishop Diego, who comes in off a win.
Bishop Diego had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They enjoyed a cozy 34-15 win over Calabasas on Saturday. Bishop Diego pushed the score to 34-7 by the end of the third, a deficit Calabasas cut but never quite recovered from.
Meanwhile, Westlake's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They were dealt a 45-14 defeat at the hands of Oaks Christian. While losing is never fun, Westlake can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 268th, while Oaks Christian is ranked 21st).
Dominic Hunt put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 27 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 95 yards and a touchdown.
Bishop Diego's victory on Saturday bumped their record up to 2-6. As for Westlake, their loss was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-7.
Everything came up roses for Bishop Diego against Westlake in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 48-12 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Bishop Diego since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
