It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Maryville ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past the South Harrison Bulldogs 9-8. The Spoofhounds' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Grant Smail made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Smail was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. Those hits marked the first that he got this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carson Hageman, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Canon Creason was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Maryville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Maryville is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season.
