Softball Recap: Northeastern Knights vs. Centerville Bulldogs
Northeastern dropped their record down to 7-5 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the Centerville Bulldogs by a score of 8-7. If the Knights were looking for revenge after losing 3-2 to the Bulldogs when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Alexis Russell made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Isabella Peed was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
As for Centerville, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since May 3, 2024.
On Centerville's side, Madi Yount spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up ten Ks. Yount has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Haven Walter was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilly Day, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI and two doubles.
Coming up, Northeastern will head out on the road to square off against Monroe Central at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Centerville, they will host Wes-Del at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
