Baseball Recap: Devine Drops Highest Score of Season Against Uvalde

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Devine). Everything went their way against the Uvalde Coyotes/Lobos (for girls) on Friday as they made off with an 11-1 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Warhorses considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Rudy Costilla made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Devine is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-9-1 otherwise. Costilla was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Devine got a big performance out of Alfredo Ramirez, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. The Warhorses are 3-1 when Ramirez posts two or more stolen bases, but 4-10-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Riley Gutierrez, who scored three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Devine always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Devine's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-11-1. As for Uvalde, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-6-2.
