Montana State signee led Sheridan to a 20-4 record, Class 4A semifinals.

Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school basketball. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2020-21 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.

Sam Lecholat of Sheridan is the 2020-21 MaxPreps Wyoming High School Basketball Player of the Year. The 6-foot-6, 215-pound senior helped the Broncs go 20-4 en route to the Class 4A state semifinals.

Lecholat averaged 17.7 points, 10.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.9 blocks per game while shooting 52 percent from the field.

The reigning state Gatorade Player of the Year surpassed the career 1,000-point mark in a Jan. 29 win over Bishop Walsh.

Lecholat will join a strong 2021 recruiting class at Montana State, joining Montana Player of the Year Alex Germer, Alaska Player of the Year candidate Patrick McMahon and international prospect Great Osobor.

Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which is scheduled to be released April 13.
