Greenfield-Central is 0-4 against Perry Meridian since May of 2015 but things could change on Friday. The Cougars will challenge the Falcons at 5:00 p.m.
Thursday just wasn't the day for Greenfield-Central's offense. They lost 9-0 to New Palestine on Thursday. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Cougars were not able to get on the board.
Greenfield-Central saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brady Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with one double. Hayden Kidd also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Perry Meridian entered their tilt with Greenwood on Wednesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Woodmen by a score of 9-4.
Jackson McDaniel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Aiden Kerr, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Acosta, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Perry Meridian's victory bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Greenfield-Central, they now have a losing record of 6-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Greenfield-Central has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Perry Meridian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Greenfield-Central came up short against Perry Meridian when the teams last played back in March of 2024, falling 3-0. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
