Basketball Preview: Gilman Greyhounds vs. Calvert Hall Cardinals
The Gilman Greyhounds will head out on the road to face off against the Calvert Hall Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gilman is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.
Last Wednesday, Gilman lost to the Gaels at home by a decisive 72-53 margin. While losing is never fun, Gilman can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 118th, while the Gaels are ranked sixth).
Meanwhile, Calvert Hall escaped with a win on Wednesday against the Eagles by the margin of a single free throw, 50-49. The win made it back-to-back wins for Calvert Hall.
It was another big night for Brendan Johnson, who scored 30 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Calvert Hall's points. Another player making a difference was Tyrin Bizzelle, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists.
Gilman's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Calvert Hall, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 12-15 record this season.
Gilman opened the new year with a less-than-successful 55-48 loss to the Cardinals. Can Gilman avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
