Basketball Recap: Southside Starts Season with Win Against North East Carolina Prep + How To Watch

Southside had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 59-50 win over the North East Carolina Prep Huskies on Thursday. For the Seahawks, this counts as revenge for the 73-71 victory the Huskies walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January.

Southside was led to victory by Zymere Wiggins and Joshua Holland. Wiggins dropped a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, while Holland almost dropped a double-double with 11 points and nine boards. Those 11 points gave Holland a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Javonn McCall, who posted six points.

Southside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 29 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 21 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Having lost for the first time this season, North East Carolina Prep fell to 3-1.

Southside will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Martin County at 7:30 p.m. on December 2. As for North East Carolina Prep, they will welcome Hobgood Charter at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
