Football Recap: Ventura Skates Past Santa Barbara with Ease

While Ventura put up plenty of points on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Santa Barbara. The Cougars took their match with ease, bagging a 34-0 victory over the Dons. The Cougars have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Dons, too.

Ventura got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ava Ortman out in front who threw for 287 yards and five touchdowns. Ortman is crushing it when it comes to passing touchdowns: she's passed for at least four every time she's taken the field this season. Ventura's leading receiver Mya Rodriguez was Ortman's top target yet again, picking up 84 receiving yards and four TDs.

Ventura's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Jordyn Ward with two sacks.

The victory made it two in a row for Ventura and bumps their season record up to 2-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.0 points over those games. As for Santa Barbara, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 3-3.

Looking ahead, Ventura will take on Buena at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs' defense has only allowed 12.5 points per game this season, so the Cougars' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Santa Barbara, they will venture away from home to take on Rio Mesa at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
