Softball Game Preview: Piedmont Highlanders vs. Tennyson Lancers

Piedmont is a perfect 10-0 against Tennyson since March of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Highlanders will challenge the Lancers at 4:00 p.m. The last three games Piedmont has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Piedmont took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Acalanes, sneaking past 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Highlanders have posted since March 18th.

Miya Fujimoto made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cyntiche Kouadio, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Samantha Ronen, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Tennyson's offense. They lost 12-0 to San Leandro on Wednesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Lancers in their meetings with the Pirates: they've now lost six in a row.

The win got Piedmont back to even at 6-6. As for Tennyson, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.

Everything went Piedmont's way against Tennyson in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Piedmont made off with a 13-3 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Highlanders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
