Basketball Recap: Leon Piles Up the Points Against Taylor County

Leon lost to Taylor County back in January, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Leon Lions took their matchup with ease, bagging a 57-24 victory over the Taylor County Bulldogs. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 49-13.

Leon had a senior duo take command as Noah Eckhart went 8 of 10 on his way to 20 points and eight rebounds and Aaron Pensel dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. Pensel is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alphonza Gammons, who posted eight points.

Leon has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. As for Taylor County, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.

Leon will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Orange Park at 6:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025. After both having extra time off, Taylor County and Chiefland will shake off the cobwebs and face off against one another at 6:30 p.m. on January 2, 2025.
