Softball Recap: Proctor Academy Hornets vs. Holderness Bulls

While Proctor Academy's victory against Holderness wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Hornets won by a run and slipped past the Bulls 10-9. The win continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Bulls: they've now won six in a row.

Abbie Vlacich made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those stolen bases were her first of the season.

In other batting news, Cade Wiley was incredible, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Caroline Dove, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Proctor Academy's victory bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Holderness, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-4.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Proctor Academy is set to square off against their familiar foe New Hampton School at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Holderness will face off against rival St. Paul's at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
