Baseball Recap: Marina Drops Highest Score of Season Against Seaside

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Marina). They put the hurt on the Seaside Spartans with a sharp 20-5 victory on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Mariners needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Kaleb True and Leonel Alvarado Mancillas made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, True pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Alvarado Mancillas pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of Marina's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 2-1 (and 0-14 when he doesn't). At the plate, True got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Alvarado Mancillas went 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two RBI gave Alvarado Mancillas a new career-high.

In other batting news, Titus Calvera was incredible, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Douglas Ciolino was another key player, going 2-for-5 with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

Marina's record now sits at 2-15. As for Seaside, they are on an 18-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-16.

Marina will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Spartans: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
