Basketball Recap: JJ Russ' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hanover-Horton over Michigan Center

Hanover-Horton won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Monday. They came up short against the Michigan Center Cardinals, falling 73-53. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Comets have suffered since February 17, 2024.

Several Comets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was JJ Russ, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 11 points. That's the most points Russ has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Soper, who went 5 for 11 en route to 12 points and six boards.

Hanover-Horton's loss dropped their record down to 11-7. As for Michigan Center, they pushed their record up to 14-4 with the win, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season.

Hanover-Horton and Michigan Center should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings. Hanover-Horton (ranked 247th) will meet Addison (ranked 630th) at 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Similarly, Michigan Center will take on Leslie at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday up 266 places (146 vs. 412).
