Kingman dropped down to 6-7 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Chino Valley Cougars by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Bulldogs have suffered since March 28, 2025.

Canton Collins was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in February. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Kingman's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 4-6 when he doesn't).
Collins wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Garrick Hallman, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
As for Chino Valley, their victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games.
Like Kingman, Chino Valley also got a great game from a two-way player: Destry Owings. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up four earned runs off three hits. Owings was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Chino Valley let Jacob Boivin and Caden Todd run wild. Boivin went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run, while Todd went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kingman will host Phoenix Christian at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Cougars' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Chino Valley, they will be playing at home against Odyssey Institute at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Minotaur have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season.
