Softball Recap: St. Francis Comes Up Short

St. Francis had lost four straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 1-5 to make it five. They came up short against the Luther Prep Phoenix, falling 16-0. If the Mariners were looking for revenge after losing 13-2 to the Phoenix when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Luther Prep, the victory got them back to even at 3-3. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by six runs or more this season.

For Luther Prep's part, Addy Schmidt made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Schmidt has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four runs, two RBI, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, Luther Prep got a massive performance out of Callie Peil, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those doubles marked the first that Peil has hit this season. Myah Pederson was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Francis will square off against Milwaukee Reagan at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Mariners' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Huskies have averaged an impressive 10.5 runs per game this season. As for Luther Prep, they will take on Brookfield Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
