Preview: San Marcos Rattlers vs. New Braunfels Unicorns
San Marcos is 0-7 against New Braunfels since September of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The San Marcos Rattlers will head out on the road to face off against the New Braunfels Unicorns at 7:30 p.m. San Marcos is hoping to put an end to a nine-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Friday, San Marcos took a serious blow against Judson, falling 48-16. While losing is never fun, San Marcos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 766th, while Judson is ranked 218th).
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but New Braunfels ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Clemens 32-30. New Braunfels didn't have much to brag about two games back, but this win makes it their second in a row.
New Braunfels' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Leighton Adams led the charge by throwing for 181 yards and two touchdowns, while also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Tyree Johnson and his 111 yards on the ground were also a key factor in New Braunfels' victory.
Judson's win bumped their season record to 3-5 while San Marcos' loss dropped theirs to 0-8.
San Marcos was taken down by New Braunfels 38-10 in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Can San Marcos avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
