Basketball Recap: Wilcox-Hildreth Comes Up Short

Wilcox-Hildreth came up into this matchup off a tough 25-point loss last Saturday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Hampton Hawks by a score of 44-42 on Saturday. The Falcons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, Wilcox-Hildreth saw an underclassman step up: freshman Drew Blank dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Those 17 points set a new season-high mark for Blank.

Hampton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Landen Hansen led the charge by going 5 of 11 on his way to 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Dose, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Wilcox-Hildreth's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Hampton, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.

Wilcox-Hildreth will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Bertrand at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. As for Hampton, they will take on Kenesaw in a tournament on Monday. Kenesaw has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
