Basketball Recap: Cowan Comes Up Short

Cowan lost against Yorktown back in January of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Cowan Blackhawks took a blow against the Yorktown Tigers, falling 65-25. While losing is never fun, the Blackhawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 438th, while the Tigers are ranked 202nd).

Several Blackhawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Gentry Groves, who posted six points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Lucas Terrell, who earned seven points.

Jabin Barnes was a one-man wrecking crew for Yorktown as he went 7 of 10 en route to 16 points and seven boards. Connor Rowray was another key player, putting up 12 points and three steals.

Cowan is on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-11. As for Yorktown, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-7.

Cowan will challenge Muncie Burris at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th. Cowan is facing Muncie Burris at the right time seeing as Muncie Burris is stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Yorktown, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 48-34 loss against Wapahani on the 18th.
