Preview: Holliday Eagles vs. Jacksboro Tigers
Holliday is 5-0 against Jacksboro since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Holliday Eagles are on the road again and play against the Jacksboro Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on November 24th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Holliday had no problem doing just that on Friday. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 42-6 victory over Leonard. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Holliday just coasted through the last quarter.
Grant Cox had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 92 yards and four touchdowns on only 13 carries, and also threw for 159 yards and a touchdown on only 15 passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Parker Jones, who gained 83 total yards and a touchdown.
Holliday's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. The heavy lifting was done by Cooper Turner and Vaughn Hamill who racked up five sacks between them.
Meanwhile, Jacksboro put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 45-6 victory over Bells on the road.
Luke Sams was his usual excellent self, rushing for 132 yards and four touchdowns, while also picking up 79 receiving yards. Sams has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last three times he's played. Lando Belcher also helped out by tossing the rock for 283 yards.
Their wins bumped Holliday to 11-1 and Jacksboro to 12-0.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Holliday has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 201.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Jacksboro struggles in that department as they've been even better at 239.1 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
