Football Game Preview: Lampasas Badgers vs. Brownwood Lions

For the first time this season, Lampasas will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They are taking a road trip to face off against the Brownwood Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lampasas will come into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.

If Brownwood heads into halftime all tied up, they better play a good second half: that's when Lampasas took over last week. The Badgers came out on top against Lorena by a score of 42-35 on Thursday. That's two games straight that the Badgers have won by exactly seven points.

Lampasas got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was KJ Reed out in front who rushed for 134 yards on only 12 carries. Reed's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 101 rushing yards. Wesley Stephens also helped out as he racked up 140 rushing yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Lampasas was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 299 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 299 rushing yards in three consecutive games.

Lampasas didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Coulter Sellers, Trent Rogers, and Tate Langford picked up one apiece. Sellers also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with ten. Lampasas got some further help from Campbell Roberts: he picked up three sacks, forced one fumble, and made eight total tackles (4.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, Brownwood never let their opponents score on Friday. They blew past Ingleside 62-0. The matchup marked the Lions' most dominant victory of the season.

Lampasas' record is now 6-0. As for Brownwood, the win got them back to even at 3-3.

Lampasas beat Brownwood 30-20 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Badgers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
