The Amarillo Sandies will take on the Coronado Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Amarillo is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their game on the road last Friday with ease, bagging a 56-3 victory over Caprock. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-0.

Amarillo's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jude Dunivin, who rushed for 149 yards and a touchdown, and also picked up 38 receiving yards. Dunivin's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 134 rushing yards. Bryson Brown was another key receiver, gaining 90 total yards and five touchdowns.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Amarillo was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 216 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2023.

Amarillo wouldn't let Caprock keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force three fumbles. It was truly a group effort as David Herrera, Kason Stroud, and Bishop Stevens picked up one apiece. Herrera also forced afumble, which is notable because Amarillo is 2-1 when he posts at least one forced fumble, but 1-2 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Coronado came into Friday's match having lost six straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They managed a 34-29 win over Caprock on Friday.

It was another big night for Demarion Finch, who rushed for 112 yards and three touchdowns, and also picked up 48 receiving yards. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in August. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Vazquez, who threw for 252 yards and a touchdown while picking up 10.5 yards per attempt.

The victory got Amarillo back to even at 3-3. As for Coronado, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-6.

Everything came up roses for Amarillo against Coronado in their previous meeting back in October of 2023, as the squad secured a 66-14 victory. In that matchup, Amarillo amassed a halftime lead of 38-14, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
