Baseball Recap: Desert Edge Beats Buckeye for Their Third Straight Victory

Desert Edge waltzed into their contest on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Buckeye Hawks by a score of 8-3. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-2 last Tuesday.

Desert Edge got a great performance from Chase Downing as he struck out six batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Those six strikeouts gave Downing a new career-high.

At the plate, Cooper Zaremba and Tyson Kinnear did most of the damage at the plate: Zaremba scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Kinnear scored a run while going 2-for-4. That run marked the first that Zaremba scored this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Devin Martinez, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Desert Edge hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.

Desert Edge now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Buckeye, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-6.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Desert Edge is set to square off against their familiar foe Canyon View at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Buckeye will challenge rival Youngker at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
