Baseball Recap: St. Laurence's Loss Ends 14-Game Winning Streak on the Road

St. Laurence dropped their record down to 26-5 on Saturday, which also ended the team's 14-game streak of wins on the road dating back to last season. They fell 6-2 to the Brother Rice Crusaders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Crusaders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-2 on Thursday.

As for Brother Rice, they pushed their record up to 29-2 with the win, which was their 18th straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games.

For Brother Rice's part, Brayden McKendrick tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. McKendrick has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Aidan Nohava and Gavin Triezenberg did most of the damage at the plate: Nohava went 2-for-3 with one home run, while Triezenberg went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

St. Laurence and Brother Rice should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Vikings (ranked third) will meet Manteno (ranked 163rd) at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Brother Rice will take on Marist at 4:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (1 vs. 64).
