Basketball Recap: Sitka Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Sitka can now relate to. They had to suffer through a 60-29 loss at the hands of the Grace Christian Grizzlies. While losing is never fun, the Wolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked 51st, while the Grizzlies are ranked eighth).

Sitka moved to 15-10 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.4 points over those games. As for Grace Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season.

Sitka and Grace Christian are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Sitka won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Valdez at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Grace Christian, they will also get right back to it: they'll challenge Kenai Central at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. Grace Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Kenai Central likes a good challenge.
